It officially opened on October 28, 2002, and is designed to resemble a Mediterranean town during the European Renaissance period, particularly inspired by Italian architecture from cities like Florence, Venice, and Pisa.

The mall’s name, "Mercato," is derived from the Italian word for "market," reflecting its vibrant and colorful marketplace ambiance. Covering a total area of about 59,900 square meters (645,000 square feet), with around 22,900 square meters (247,000 square feet) of leasable retail space, it houses more than 140 international lifestyle and fashion outlets alongside various service providers.

Mercato stands out with its Renaissance-inspired design featuring cobbled streets, piazzas, and a large glass atrium that fills the interior with natural light, creating a charming and inviting atmosphere for visitors.
