Al Ghurair City, formerly known as Al Ghurair Centre, is a landmark shopping mall located in the heart of Deira, Dubai. It holds the distinction of being the first modern shopping mall in the Middle East and the MENA region when it opened in 1981.

Developed by the Al Ghurair Group, a prominent family business conglomerate with roots tracing back to the 1930s, the mall has played a vital role in shaping Dubai's retail landscape. Over the decades, Al Ghurair Centre evolved from a pioneering shopping destination into a comprehensive mixed-use development, encompassing retail, dining, office space, serviced apartments, and a five-star hotel.

The mall's initial design combined Arabic architectural elements with Western-inspired retail concepts, attracting shoppers and visitors to the bustling commercial area of Deira. As Dubai expanded and newer malls emerged, Al Ghurair Centre underwent several renovations and expansions, most notably in 2013, which almost doubled its retail space to around 850,000 square feet and introduced over 150 new stores.

This expansion also integrated modern entertainment zones, family-friendly amenities, and a refreshed tenant mix including both global brands and traditional local boutiques. The centre's dining options grew to feature a diverse range of cuisines and eateries, alongside notable landmarks such as the Middle East’s first McDonald's.

Al Ghurair City continues to serve as a cultural and retail hub, reflecting its deep-rooted connection to the Dubai community while adapting to contemporary consumer demands.
