Wedad Nasser Lootah, born in 1964 in Dubai, is a prominent Emirati marriage counselor and author known for her pioneering work in sexual education within the context of Islamic culture. She has served as a family counselor at Dubai’s main courthouse since its opening in 2001, where she has been the only female counselor in the Family Guidance section.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Islamic Studies at the United Arab Emirates University and has also worked in various capacities including as an Islamic education teacher and a family mentor within government entities focusing on family guidance and women’s advocacy.
She gained widespread recognition and sparked debate in 2009 with the publication of her book "Top Secret: Guidelines and Etiquette of an Intimate Marital Relationship," which was the first comprehensive sexual guidebook published in the UAE.
The book addresses subjects traditionally regarded as taboo in the region, such as the female orgasm, oral sex, the dangers of anal sex, the necessity of sex education, and homosexuality. Although her frank discussion of these topics drew praise from progressive Muslims for advancing understanding and education, it also incited strong backlash from conservative groups, including death threats.
Nonetheless, she has maintained that her advice is consistent with the Qur'an and that her work received prior approval from the Mufti of Dubai.
Her counseling emphasizes the importance of sexual satisfaction within marriage as a means to preserve and strengthen family bonds, aiming to prevent divorce and illegal relationships in society.
