Verre was a distinguished restaurant in Dubai, famously known as Gordon Ramsay's first international restaurant venture, located within the Hilton Dubai Creek hotel.
It opened on October 1, 2001, and operated for ten years until its closure on October 28, 2011. Designed alongside the hotel by architect Carlos Ott, Verre was notable for its modern and elegant dining environment with a capacity initially for 70 diners, later reduced to 55 seats.
The restaurant marked a significant milestone as the first in Dubai to be opened by a celebrity chef who had established restaurants in Western Europe, setting a precedent for other renowned chefs entering the Dubai market.
During its operation, Verre showcased contemporary European cuisine with high culinary standards, under the leadership of successful head chefs such as Angela Hartnett and Jason Atherton, both of whom went on to achieve Michelin star recognition in the UK.
The restaurant was well-received by critics and was named the best restaurant in the Middle East in 2010. Despite its popularity, the restaurant faced operational challenges related to wage disparities and hotel-imposed decor which Ramsay initially found unsatisfactory.
Over time, financial and contractual issues led to Ramsay’s withdrawal from the establishment, and after his departure, the restaurant was renamed Table 9.
Verre’s legacy remains significant as a pioneer of upscale dining in Dubai’s evolving culinary scene and as a launching point for chefs who have gone on to achieve international acclaim. The restaurant contributed to Dubai’s emergence as a global food destination and demonstrated the potential of celebrity chef-driven health concepts in the region.
From calm deserts to vibrant cities, Dubai offers contrast as an experience.
