The platform was operated by Tarjama, a UAE-based company established in 2008, which initially focused on linguistic and translation services. Ureed quickly expanded beyond its origins as a linguistic platform to become a broader freelance marketplace offering categories such as content creation, design, development, and other professional services.

The company emphasizes its commitment to diversity and inclusion, employing talents from the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond, with a mission to provide access to economic opportunities regardless of geographic borders.

In 2019, Ureed raised $5 million in funding from investors including Wamda Capital and Anova Investments, facilitating its expansion. The company also acquired Nabbesh, a regional freelance marketplace founded in 2012, integrating its assets and freelance workforce.

By 2020, Ureed was reported to have over 16,500 freelancers and 15,000+ writers, communicating in over 100 languages, with plans to expand its category offerings to include services like graphic design, web development, and digital marketing.
