Union National Bank

Union National Bank (UNB) was established in 1982 as a Public Joint Stock Company headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Over the years, it emerged as one of the UAE's leading domestic banks, offering a wide range of products and services to both individual and corporate clients. UNB’s portfolio included retail banking, corporate banking, trade finance, treasury services, and Islamic banking products through its subsidiary Al Wifaq Finance Company.

.The bank expanded its footprint with more than 50 branches and banking centers across the UAE and international presence in Egypt, Singapore, and other countries. It was listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) under the ticker symbol UNB.

A key milestone in UNB’s history was its acquisition of Alexandria Commercial and Maritime Bank in Egypt during the 2006 banking reforms, which helped expand the bank’s regional presence.

The bank was guided by notable leaders including Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, who chaired its board of directors, and Mohammad Nasr Abdeen, who served as vice chairman and managing director. UNB was recognized for its strong commitment to innovation, customer service, and the development of Islamic finance products in the UAE market, especially through its Al Wifaq Finance Company.

In 2019, Union National Bank merged with Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), marking a significant consolidation in the UAE banking sector to create a banking entity with enhanced capacity and regional influence.

This merger combined the strengths, resources, and expertise of both institutions, positioning the new entity to better serve the UAE’s growing economy and financial needs.

Up to its merger, UNB was viewed as a reliable and innovative financial institution with significant contributions to both local economic development and the broader banking landscape of the UAE.
