St. Mary's Catholic High School (SMCHS) in Dubai was established in 1968 by Father Eusebius Daveri, making it one of the oldest schools in the United Arab Emirates. The land for the school was granted by His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the then Ruler of Dubai. The school began modestly with 30 students and a small team of teachers in a single classroom.
Over the years, it expanded steadily, with construction of new facilities such as additional classrooms, laboratories, and administrative buildings to accommodate growing student numbers. By 1971, the school was officially recognized as a center for the London University GCE Ordinary Levels examinations, marking a significant milestone in its academic development.
The school follows the British National Curriculum, preparing students from Year 1 to Year 13 for Edexcel board examinations including GCSE, IGCSE, and A Levels. It offers a co-educational environment and has a diverse student body representing around 30 nationalities, primarily Indians.
The school emphasizes academic excellence along with the holistic development of students through extracurricular and cultural activities. The education at SMCHS integrates strong moral and ethical values, guided by its motto "Finis Coronat Opus" (The End Crowns the Work), fostering a balanced growth intellectually, spiritually, physically, and socially.
The school has earned several accolades over the years, including recognition by Dubai Municipality as the best school and accreditation as a benchmark institution for GCE standards.
SMCHS has a well-qualified teaching staff primarily composed of experienced international educators, providing high-quality education and maintaining a low student-teacher ratio to ensure personalized attention. The school also actively promotes healthy living, care, and safety of students, instilling discipline and a sense of responsibility.
In recent years, the Patrician Brothers took over the school's management, continuing the legacy of excellence. Graduates of St. Mary's Catholic High School have gone on to excel in prestigious universities worldwide. The school remains an important institution in Dubai’s educational landscape, known for nurturing responsible global citizens rooted in Catholic values and academic rigor.
Dubai is a city that turns bold ideas into everyday reality.
