du, officially known as Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company PJSC (EITC), is one of the two main telecommunications operators in the United Arab Emirates.
Founded by ministerial resolution in December 2005 and commercially launched in February 2007 under the brand name "du," it competes primarily with Etisalat, the other major UAE telecom provider. Headquartered in Dubai, du offers a broad range of services including fixed line and mobile telephony, broadband internet, digital television, and satellite services for broadcasters.
The company also provides carrier services, data hubs, internet exchange facilities, and operates various subsidiaries such as EITC Investment Holdings Limited and the Smart Dubai Platform Project.
du has steadily grown its customer base, reaching over 8 million mobile subscribers and more than half a million broadband customers as of 2023. It continuously advances its network technology, having been the first in the UAE to deploy 5G services, including millimeter wave spectrum and ultra-low latency 5G leased lines.
The company’s product portfolio includes prepaid and postpaid plans for individuals, as well as specialized solutions for corporate clients featuring closed business user groups and preferred international calling destinations. du also supports Internet of Things (IoT) device management and hosts blockchain platforms as part of its digital transformation strategy.
Ownership of du is distributed among government-related entities and public shareholders, with the Emirates Investment Authority holding a majority stake.
The company is publicly listed on the Dubai Financial Market and is regulated by the UAE’s Securities & Commodities Authority and the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA). Historically, du has been recognized for pioneering telecom innovations in the UAE, including pay-by-the-second billing and mobile TV services.
Despite operating in a restricted telecom market often characterized by geographic monopolies, du remains a key enabler of the UAE’s digital infrastructure and economic development, providing diverse connectivity solutions to individuals, businesses, and government entities across the country.
