Atlantis, The Palm

Atlantis, The Palm is a luxury hotel resort located at the apex of the man-made Palm Jumeirah island in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The resort opened on September 24, 2008, as a joint venture between Kerzner International Holdings Limited and Istithmar World.

It was the first resort to be built on the Palm Jumeirah and was designed with a mythological Atlantis theme, incorporating distinct Arabian architectural elements. The resort features 1,544 nautically themed rooms within two main accommodation wings, the East and West Towers, linked by the Royal Bridge Suite.

Atlantis, The Palm is renowned for its extensive entertainment offerings, including the Aquaventure water park and the Lost Chambers Aquarium, which is home to more than 65,000 marine animals.

The architectural design was led by the firm Wimberly, Tong and Goo, with interiors by Wilson and Associates, and landscaping by EDSA.

The design intertwines traditional Middle Eastern vernacular architecture, featuring sun-kissed spires, Moorish archways, palm-shaped pillars, and intricate decorative elements such as hand-wrought iron columns with floral motifs. The grand lobby is a visual highlight, with towering 19-meter ceilings, hand-painted murals by Spanish artist Albino Gonzalez depicting the legend of Atlantis, and a central glass sculpture of over 3,000 glass pieces by renowned artist Dale Chihuly.

The resort also boasts 35 world-class celebrity chef restaurants, including the award-winning underwater restaurant Ossiano.

Among its unique accommodations are the Poseidon and Neptune Underwater Suites, where the master bedroom and bathroom are submerged beneath the water, providing panoramic views of marine life through floor-to-ceiling windows of the Ambassador Lagoon.

Construction of Atlantis began in 2006 and was completed in 2008, with Laing O'Rourke as the main contractor. Despite a fire in the grand lobby just days before the opening, the resort was opened on schedule with an extravagant launch event marked by a world-record fireworks display across the entire 5-kilometer length of Palm Jumeirah.

Since its opening, Atlantis, The Palm has remained an iconic luxury destination in Dubai, combining mythical themes with Arabian heritage and offering cutting-edge hospitality and entertainment experiences.

Travel leaves you richer in ways money can never measure.
