Alia bint Khalifa bin Saeed al Maktoum

Alia bint Khalifa bin Saeed Al Maktoum was the wife of Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the former ruler of Dubai, until his death in 2006. They were married on March 12, 1971. Sheikha Alia is a member of the Al Maktoum family, which has long been the ruling family of Dubai.

Like many family members, she has been involved in horse racing, a popular and culturally significant activity in the UAE; in 2005, she purchased several horses, including Eilean Ban, which won a notable race at Newmarket Racecourse.

Sheikha Alia and Sheikh Maktoum had two daughters, Lateefa and Hafsa. Lateefa bint Maktoum Al Maktoum is known as the founder of the art center Tashkeel in Dubai, indicating the family's continued patronage of culture and the arts. Hafsa was placed under the guardianship of her uncle after her father's passing.

The family generally maintains a low public profile, reflecting a preference among this branch of the family for privacy.
