Zayed University

Zayed University is a public university in the United Arab Emirates, founded in 1998 by the UAE federal government with the initial mission to provide technical education specifically for Emirati women.

Named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father and first president of the UAE, it has grown to serve both men and women, opening admissions to male students in 2008 following the establishment of its Sweihan campus in collaboration with the UAE Armed Forces.

The university operates two campuses, one in Dubai located in Academic City since 2006, and the other in Abu Dhabi. It offers a comprehensive range of academic programs across eight colleges, including Arts and Creative Enterprises, Business, Communication and Media Sciences, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Natural and Health Sciences, Technological Innovation, and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Recognized for its academic standards, Zayed University is accredited by the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation and also holds accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in the United States, making it the first federal university in the UAE to receive such recognition.

The university enrolls approximately 10,000 students, predominantly Emirati nationals, with a small percentage of international students. It emphasizes research through various grants and fellowships, promoting undergraduate involvement in original research projects.

Despite facing challenges related to management and academic scrutiny at times, Zayed University remains a prominent institution committed to advancing national development and preparing qualified professionals in alignment with UAE's strategic vision for education and innovation. Its urban campuses provide modern facilities designed to support a diverse and dynamic student body within the UAE’s evolving educational landscape.
