Higher Colleges of Technology, Sharjah Campus

The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) is the largest applied higher education institution in the United Arab Emirates, established by Federal Law No. 2 in 1988 under the leadership of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan.

The institution was created to provide post-secondary education focused on productivity, self-determination, and excellence for UAE nationals, preparing them for professional and technical careers needed in the rapidly developing society of the UAE. The HCT system operates 16 campuses across various emirates, including two campuses in Sharjah: the Sharjah Women's Campus (established in 1997) and the Sharjah Men's Campus (established in 1998), both located in Sharjah’s University City.

These campuses serve not only Sharjah but also neighboring emirates such as Ajman and Umm Al Quwain.

HCT follows an applied learning philosophy, integrating academic instruction with practical, workplace-relevant experience to ensure graduates are equipped for successful careers.

The institution offers a wide range of programs in fields such as Applied Media, Business, Engineering Technology, Computer Information Science, Health Sciences, and Education, all delivered in English and designed in consultation with industry leaders to meet international standards and market needs.

The university has a student body of approximately 23,000 students, with a significant majority being female, reflecting its pivotal role in empowering Emirati women. Since its establishment, HCT has awarded more than 85,000 academic credentials, reflecting its strong reputation for quality education and its contribution to the UAE’s national development.

HCT is accredited by the UAE’s Commission for Academic Accreditation and is the nation's first approved university economic free zone, enabling it to foster entrepreneurship alongside academic activities.

The institution emphasizes innovation, research, and lifelong learning and maintains partnerships with global universities and industries to enhance educational quality and relevance. Governance is overseen by a Chancellor and a governing council, with operational leadership provided by a Vice Chancellor and executive directors.

HCT’s vision is to be the leading applied higher education institution in the UAE, preparing generations to shape the country's future through knowledge, skills, and competencies that meet both local and international standards.

Dubai’s skyline speaks the language of ambition fluently.
