Dubai Medical College For Girls

Dubai Medical College for Girls (DMCG) is the first private medical college established exclusively for women in the United Arab Emirates. Founded in 1986 by the visionary Haj Saeed bin Ahmed Al Lootah, the college was created to address the critical need for female doctors in the region.

The inception of the college was driven by societal and cultural considerations, emphasizing the importance of women receiving medical treatment from female physicians. The college opened its doors on August 1, 1986, with Professor Dr. Zahira H. Abdin as the founding dean and initially received support from Leicester Medical School in the UK and Cairo Medical School in Egypt, facilitating a curriculum that integrated the best international medical practices.

DMCG offers a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree, accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and recognized by the General Medical Council of Great Britain since 1995.

The academic program is intensive, combining theoretical instruction with extensive clinical training in hospitals affiliated with the Dubai Health Authority. The college has grown significantly and now enrolls students from over 50 countries, providing education primarily in English. Its graduates have excelled internationally, undertaking post-graduate exams and contributing to healthcare globally.

Throughout its history, DMCG has been formally inaugurated by major UAE leaders, including Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 1988 and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at its first graduation ceremony in 1991. The college received accreditation from international bodies including a listing by the World Health Organization in 2000.

It has also won multiple awards such as the Dubai Quality Appreciation Program and World Education Asia award. Continuing its mission to empower women in medicine, the college's ownership was transferred in 2022 to the Saeed Ahmad Lootah Charity Foundation, ensuring sustained commitment to medical education excellence for women in the UAE and beyond.
